Introduction

A big thanks to everyone at Apple who made today possible. We introduced the all-new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the best iPhones we’ve ever created.

iPhone 15

The shelf life of phones is so small, but now the iPhone is getting closer. There is a ton of rumors that are starting to come out—from color to specs to even surprise hardware that might make it in at the last minute. There’s a ton of stuff about the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, that is finally starting to come together into a clear vision. Let me tell you everything you got to know about the iPhone 15 Pro and if you should even care.

So, the last few models of iPhone Apple messed with the name and the size of the iPhone. This year it does not look to be much different, so we are expecting four new iPhones: 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and probably a 15 Pro Max. Oh, there was some rumors that Apple might differentiate the name and go with the Ultra for the Pro Max. That came from Mark German, but then he said it might wait for the iPhone 16.

iPhone 15

Either way, I will have four iPhones the same screen size that we have with the current iPhone 14 lineup. So all these new phones are going to include a few changes. Every single iPhone 15.

Bezels

first, our slimmer bezels. When I realize it, but the iPhone bezel is up kind of chunky. The iPhone 15 Pro is looking to sort of shrink that all the way down to 1.55 millimeters, which if true will be the thinnest bezels on any smartphone. But I think we’re all looking forward to finally, and this is like about time, is the long-awaited death of Lightning and the final adoption of USB-C.

USB-C

This seemed like it was never ever gonna happen. Like you’re gonna get a portless phone before you got USB Type-C. But we are finally getting it. If there was any reason to upgrade to a new iPhone, it is this. I am waiting for the day when I can throw every single Lightning cable I’ve ever had away in the trash like I did with my 30 pins and never think about them again. And again, USB-C is coming to every 15 model, not just the pros. This is a gigantic deal. Going for the first time, every major phone on the market from every major brand will be using the same cable and connector. It’s a big driver behind this from the regulations in Europe, but I don’t care what the reasoning was, but the battery can finally use one cable to charge everything. Is awesome. So that alone is making the iPhone 15 lineup, I think, pretty compelling and at least the reason why like I want to upgrade. But there is a lot more coming.

Notch

So the iPhone 14 is a very good phone but like it was, I think, say a disappointing release if you put it next to the iPhone 13, maybe the iPhone 12. Pretty much tell the difference unless you knew exactly what to look for. I’m not talking about the pros, just a regular phone. With the iPhone 15, that’s going to change, at least change like a little bit. So the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are going to be getting that Dynamic Island replaced the notch. This was first introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro, and it’s really changed the design. It made the iPhone Pro Models unique. The hammock Island, I think, is really useful. A lot of people are conflicted on it. It does come in handy at some points. I also probably wouldn’t miss it hugely if it did go away. But mostly, I think it’s nice to cut out up top they can use for something instead of just being a black notch. And bringing that to the iPhone 15 to 15 Plus, it’s gonna make a lot of people feel like the phones look different, even if they’re not that actually different.

Size

iPhone 15

I say that because the rest of the iPhone is basically going to be exactly the same that we have now. Did you expect to see new color options for the 15 lineup, including green, which would be nice, and likely we’ll see a 16 bionic processor inside and probably some slight camera improvements as well, including the camera from the 14 Pro make its way to the 15 lineup with a 48-megapixel camera. So visually, the 15 to 15 Plus will look a lot like the current 14 Pro. If you don’t have to pay the Pro price at this point, these iPhone 15 rumors are like as close to confirmed as it can be without Tim Cook being on stage.

iPhone 15

The iphone 5 Pro model is also expected to look really similar to the current phones. This time, actually, there should be some pretty big and I think compelling changes. The biggest is the build material. So right now, Apple uses stainless steel with their Pro phones and it obviously is tried and true. It works fine. This model is Apple expected to switch to Titanium, very similar to what we’ve got in the Apple Watch Ultra.

This makes a lot of sense because it’s a premium material. It also gives you strength and weight savings. Unlike the Apple Watch Ultra, we’re expecting to see this phone in multiple colors, including a dark red option. There’s been some back and forth whether it might be green. I’m just hoping for dark red, so I’m speaking it into existence.

Action Button

And the huge change on the side of the phone, the new switch. It’s going away for the first time. But it’s not going away entirely. Instead, Apple’s looking to replace it with an action button that is programmable for a few different tasks, including, I assume, muting the phone. The action button on the Apple Watch Ultra, same deal here. I’m not sure how I feel about this since the mute switch is integral part of the iPhone. As long as the functionality is taken away and it’s only added, and it’s a move I’m okay with. And honestly, when I get my phone, I put it in vibrate and I pretty much never turn it off of that. So assuming I can just leave it in vibrate, have other functionality, it could be pretty cool.

iphone 15 Pro Max

Lastly, the one feature coming to the Max phone or I don’t know, maybe the Ultra phone is a new telephoto camera. So right now, we’ve got a three times zoom on both Pros, which is fine and like probably slightly below average versus competition. But compared to other flagship phones, it’s definitely falling behind. The 15 Pro Max Apple’s gonna be putting in a periscope camera to enable 5x or even six times Zoom. With that back and forth reports which one’s going to be. Periscope cameras have been available on Android phones for a while, especially just using mirrors to turn the camera sideways, kind of have a longer zoom. I think that’s probably the reason why it’s only going to be in the bigger phone for now. It takes up just more space. And this feature I’m excited to try out because I use telephoto probably more than most people do.

Specifications

Aside from that, expect improvements to other camera lenses as well. On the inside though, we should see the A17 chip, which should feature more RAM. It also will be the first three-nanometer chip that Apple was using. That should hopefully bring better battery life. And I’ve talked about this for a while, especially on social media, but the battery life on my 14 Pro Max has gotten really bad. Actually, battery degradation has gotten really bad. I’m in the low 90s for battery health. I only thought to check because I don’t see my battery wasn’t lasting me as long as it used to. And judging by all these responses, I am not alone. Maybe there was a bad batch of 14 Pro Maxes or 14 Pros that came out. But hopefully, whatever that was gets fixed with this next generation.

Pros

Slightly bad news this generation though, the pros should be costing about a hundred dollars more than last gen. So like everything in life, things are getting more expensive. If you look at it from a micro level, the changes the iPhone 15 lineup might not seem that exciting. But if you kind of step back a little bit, there’s a lot to really like. I can’t overstate how excited I am for USB Type-C. Just again, for one cable, when you travel, you always have to bring that Lightning cable or yeah, and cable to charge your phone. I’m pretty stoked to just have again one cable for everything.

Periscope

Periscope is a really welcome change to the iPhone. I think those are things that are going to make giant improvements. Then bringing Pro features to the regular models, I think, are also big steps for Apple. Like Dynamic Island, I wonder if it indicates sort of a change for Apple features get announced on the pro phones then the next year they make it to the 15. So you can follow that lineup. Perhaps we’ll see a periscope camera on the iPhone 16 or at least on the 16 Plus. There’s a lot to like here. I’m sure Apple’s got a few key announcements. It’s a marketing speech. I’m sure Tim Cook will tell us the fastest iPhone ever because obviously it is and sort of make some comparisons. So Qualcomm is doing, but these phones are fast. They’re going to be good. They’re going to be reliable, and they’ll work for a very long time.

Conclusion

So if you’re in the market for a new iPhone, don’t buy one until the middle of September.
